Our Forth Brood of Barn Owls
We’re absolutely delighted to share some wonderful news from The Garden of Arden as our barn owl box on one of the mature oak tree is home to six beautiful barn owl chicks.
During a routine visit, the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO) checked the box and discovered a thriving brood around 65 days old, soon ready to fledge and take their first flights into the Warwickshire skies.
The BTO team also ringed the owlets, an important part of conservation work in Warwickshire. Ringing helps track barn owl populations, monitor survival rates, understand movement patterns, and support long‑term protection of this iconic species.
We even had a surprise earlier in the season when we spotted one of the parent owls hunting during the day after a spell of heavy rain. Barn owls are usually nocturnal hunters, so seeing this behaviour was a rare and fascinating glimpse into how adaptable they can be when feeding a hungry brood.
This marks the fourth brood of barn owl chicks raised in our oak‑mounted box since 2021, and each one feels just as magical as the first. Moments like these are a wonderful reminder of how thriving habitats support thriving wildlife.
